For the Love of Alia
Alia Ollikainen is an artist residing in Malibu, California, who works in the mediums of painting, drawing, collage, digital art, fiber arts, ceramic sculpture and pottery, and photography. She received her Bachelors of Art from UCLA in 2002. Her work is influenced by a combination of Nature, the ocean, theology, psychological process, folklore, science, and her own abstract observations of the invisible connections between tangible and intangible events and objects. She views her art making as a form of poetry through imagery. Ollikainen intends for her work to be read and understood in a way that transcends discourse.
Love is a common theme present in all of Ollikainen’s work. She holds the personal belief that the ultimate power of human kind, and potentially what may very well connect all living things, is the ability and willingness to love. Love manifests in many forms. Ollikainen chooses to weave patience, gratitude, recognition, forgiveness, and conscious connections throughout her artwork during both the conception and the process of her work. For this reason she named her art practice “For the love of Alia.”
